VDAMP

Torsional Vibration Viscous Damper with Broadband Effect

GESILINGER

The Geislinger VDAMP® and VDAMP®XT are viscous dampers that protect engine camshafts and crankshafts from possible damage caused by torsional vibrations and help to avoid barred speed ranges. The vibration energy is converted into heat, which then dissipates from the damper’s surface into the ambient air. Due to the improved Geislinger calculation method, the viscous damper can be perfectly fitted to any individual applications.

The VDAMP® is a viscous torsional vibration damper consisting of an outer housing and an inner inertia ring, which is guided by bearing elements. Between them, they form a narrow gap, which is filled with high viscous silicone oil, coupling the ring mechanically to the housing by shearing the oil in between.

Increased Service Life

Decades of experience in the field of torsional vibrations and sophisticated torsional vibration calculation (TVC) software enable customized viscous damper calculations. In order to improve the heat dissipation and extend lifetime, fins can be implemented into the housing design of the damper or an oil spray cooling can be added. Both methods improve the cooling of the damper and therefore help to increase service life.
